Welcome to the July 2005 FijiBure.Com newsletter

FijiBure.com forums now open

See: http://forums.delphiforums.com/fijibure

We are pleased to advise that, as requested by several guests, we have now established forums for each of the villages participating in FijiBure.com.

The forums are to only be used as think tanks for interested parties who want to discuss how they can help the village or villages they have visited.

We are currently talking to several eco-friendly ventures including an easy and inexpensive way to replace diesel fired generators with locally adapted coconut oils, clean water (upgrading of sewerage systems in the villages) and have an offer of several hundred high school maths books - the problem being the transport from Tasmania to Fiji! More on the cononut oil project at this link: http://www.kokonutpacific.com/

These are the sort of issues that we are looking at expanding on so that the forum can facilitate the introduction of these schemes, funding ideas particular to a village, cottage industry development think tanks etc... please feel free top participate and share your ideas in this area.

You can find out more about the voluntary village funds at this link http://www.fijibure.com/funds.htm

I would like to extend a big "thank you" to Sandra O'Neill who has kindly offered to moderate the forums.

Galoa and Rookwa on the map

We have now added Rookwa http://www.fijibure.com/rookwa and Galoa http://www.fijibure.com/galoa to FijiBure.com

Exciting news for the villages is an upcoming visit by an Adelaide based film crew who will be documenting their trip to Rookwa and Galoa with a focus on the schools on these tiny islands.

Intrepid Tours

We welcome the involvement of Intrepid Travel in village homestays. Following the enormously successful trials at Namatakula (where groups of up to twelve have spent a couple of nights with our hosts) Intrepid Travel are now looking at expanding their Fiji tours to include our trekking options (that start at the village of Nadrau) and going further afield to other villages in the islands.
