Getaway
is and always has been Australia's premier television travel program.
In March 2004 we approached Getaway to spend some time at one
of our villages and were delighted when our offer was accepted. In June that
year Catriona Rowntree and her television crew spent several days at Namatakula
and enjoyed some magical moments that can only be experienced in a totally
different cultural surrounding.
Catriona (photo right) has reported for Getaway since 1996 and is synonymous with its success.
Prior to this Catriona studied journalism after working as a researcher with Business Review Weekly, 2GB and Prime Television. In 1991 she moved to FM radio as a newsreader and music and lifestyle program host, first in community radio and then with the ABC youth FM radio station, Triple J, for which she presented until her move to Getaway.
She is known for her spontoneity, wit and brevity in trying things that any other women would not dare - for example catching an octopus with her bare hands as she did at Namatakula - one of FijiBure.com's participating villages.
On the 17th Feb 2005 Catriona's experiences were televised on Channel 9's Getaway to over two million viewers around Australia - this publicity has assisted this project immensely and thousands of Fijian villagers have benefitted directly as a result.
FijiBure.com would like to extend big thank you to all the crew at Getaway, the Producers, the Editors and a special thanks to their researcher, Felicity, for all her support and excellent work - you are a credit to your profession!
